Crafted Dwelling™ no. 3

A minimalist canvas for an emerging creative voice

Crafted Dwelling No. 3 was imagined as a quiet backdrop for artistic exploration. Designed for a USC art student, this 750 sq ft ADU balances spatial efficiency with a strong sense of identity — offering a calm, well-organized home that supports both focused study and creative freedom.

Influenced by the orthogonal geometry of mid-century masters like Rudolph Schindler, the Artist’s Flat uses clean, modern lines and a restrained material palette to form a functional living environment that never distracts from the work being made within. The space is anchored by thoughtful moments of custom millwork: a built-in desk, slender display shelving, and a compact kitchenette, all carefully placed to maximize space without overwhelming it.

Walls remain largely unadorned, acting as pin-up space for sketches, inspiration, and in-progress work. Clerestory windows and a narrow slatted skylight allow controlled natural light to enter the unit, creating soft shifts in brightness throughout the day — ideal for both working and reflecting. Easy-to-clean polished concrete floors, neutral-toned furnishings, and modular storage keep the living area flexible and low-maintenance.

This is not a flashy studio or a trend-driven micro-loft — it's a dwelling designed for someone in motion, someone building a voice and a future. The Artist’s Flat is quiet, grounded, and crafted to evolve with its occupant.

With a more utilitarian, yet custom aesthetic, the interior exudes simplicity and functionality
